About Ben

Ben is an Air Force veteran with experience leading and planning cybersecurity initiatives and IT projects in high-pressure environments. He holds a masters degree in Cybersecurity and multiple certifications in both cybersecurity and project management.

This background gave Ben a pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to problem solving and risk management, focusing on what actually works and not just what sounds impressive. When it comes to cybersecurity, this is all too often focusing on the fundamentals: strong authentication, phishing resilience, simple access controls, and other easy to overlook practices.

Ben developed the idea for Hedgerow Cybersecurity Consulting after watching small business after small business fall victim to basic cyberattacks. He realized that all too often, small businesses think they are beneath the notice of cybercriminals and fail to invest in proper security measures, leading to disastrous results. Many business owners believe that cybersecurity is only for companies that have their own IT infrastructure, and that if they outsource their systems to larger tech companies they are covered.

Hedgerow Cybersecurity Consulting helps small teams identify and reduce these practical risks by strengthening the human and operational side of security so mistakes are less likely to become costly incidents.

Why “Hedgerow”?

Maintaining a strong cybersecurity posture takes continuous effort and care. It is not something that you do once and then forget about.

Much in the same way, a hedgerow does not appear fully grown. It takes continuous maintenance to ensure that it remains strong and healthy. Many cybersecurity companies operate with a “castle wall” approach, with one or more strong security control that will theoretically keep out the bad guys. In reality, most cyberattacks do not hinge on “breaking through walls”, but rather through leveraging human errors such as weak passwords, falling for phishing emails, misconfigured security settings, or social engineering.

Hedgerow Cybersecurity Consulting focuses on where risk actually occurs: everyday human behavior and the systems that support it.
